Novel Food and Consumers (MP)

Big Food participation in Novel Food Chains (NFH)

Description
• Course Pitch
One of the most significant challenges facing the world in the coming decade is the pursuit of zero hunger amidst the backdrop of climate change and the imperative to produce food sustainably to nourish a growing global population.

In recent decades, the food industry has been significantly influenced by major corporations often referred to as "big food." Historically, the primary focus of these major players has been profit generation rather than the production of sustainable or nutritious food items. Big food companies have been responsible for introducing conveniences such as frozen foods and have overcome the limitations of food seasonality by optimizing supply chains, enabling foods to be sourced and transported globally.

Moreover, the large food companies have recognized the shift in consumer preferences towards sustainably produced foods and healthier dietary choices, driven by the growing global population. This course will delve into the strategies employed by big food in adapting to and shaping the emerging trends in novel food production chains, responding to evolving consumer demands for sustainability and healthier food options.

The completion of the learning and assessment will help you understand the actions big food companies are taking towards novel/alternative foods and most importantly will be able to apply the learnings to the context of your business/work.
