Climate Smart Agriculture (MP)

Innovations in Sorting, Packaging, Labelling, Storage and Transportation (CSAI)

Description
• Course Pitch
Lack of proper post-harvest processes and interventions can contribute to up to 40% of food losses & waste in horticulture and up to 25% for grains (FAO 2021). In many ways, minimising post-harvest losses is more sustainable than increasing production to compensate for these losses.

Specifically, the aim of this course is to help you understand the post-harvest processes and gaps to plan and optimise the quality & economic value of the food produce. Also, it presents opportunities for entrepreneurs to build business models and businesses around post-harvest innovations and also to create value for other food and agribusiness entrepreneurs in the value chain.

At the end of this course and assessment, you would be able to answer/discuss the below questions with a lot more clarity and confidence.
-->How do post-harvest interventions add value to the business model elements?
-->How to understand the post-harvest solutions from the perspective of their value to different players in the value chain?
-->What is the value of post-harvest solutions in emerging markets vs Western markets?
-->What are the different opportunities for smallholder farmers to benefit from better post-harvest management solutions?
-->What is the role of post-harvest management in reducing food waste?
-->How do post-harvest interventions add value to the business model elements?
-->What are the limitations of post-harvest management?
-->What are the risks associated with post-harvest innovations?
-->What is the role of public and donor organizations within the context of post-harvest management?
